India's Tata Motors Limited manufactures the five-seater Tata Harrier, a compact crossover SUV with a diesel engine. It was introduced to the Indian market on January 23, 2019, and it sits in between the mid-size Tata Safari and the subcompact Tata Nexon.
During the development stage, this mid-size SUV was referred to as the Tata H5X concept car and was code-named Q501. In summer 2018, the parent corporation revealed the reduced name, 'Harrier'. The vehicle is a C-segment SUV built on the Omega Arc platform, which is effectively a redesigned version of the D8 platform used by the Jaguar Land Rover E-Pace, Range Rover Evoque, and Discovery Sport. Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture is referred to as OMEGARC. This building is monocoque. For safety, it has crumple zones. In contrast to the Jaguar Land Rover models' multilink suspension, the OmegaArc's rear suspension features a twist-beam scheme and panhard rod with coil spring, which is less expensive than the original D8. The front axle still uses an anti-roll bar and MacPherson strut with coil spring. There is less high-strength steel in the body.
Transmissions and engines are also subject to change. The Harrier's braking system consists of drums in the back and vented discs up front. Four-wheel drive is not yet available. It is a 2.0-liter engine. Fiat FCA India in Pune produces a multijet 16-valve, 4-cylinder turbo diesel with common rail direct injection and a variable-geometry turbocharger that produces 350 N⋅m (258 lb⋅ft; 36 kg⋅m) of torque and 140 horsepower (104 kW; 142 PS). In the Indian market, the MG Hector and Jeep Compass both use the same engine plant. Tata Motors calls the engine in the Harrier by the marketing name Kryotec. The Harrier's interior has a new 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, and a 7-inch TFT display serves as the instrument cluster. Six airbags, traction control, and ESP stability control are standard on top model levels. In addition, a Terrain Response System (borrowed from Land Rover) with three selectable settings (Normal, Wet, and Rough) and three driving modes (Eco, City, and Sport) are available.
